Do you think that the F-111 Aardvark should come back into use?

Irrelevant. It will never be back. And they should have went with Republic's TFX anyway. Shrug

Why is this in the F-22 Section?

But honestly, I think the F-111 shouldn't come back. Airframes have its limitations and frankly. We can't rely on a Vietnam design for future wars.

what's the status of the mothballed advarks in the desert?

how much can be stored an aircraft in AMARG and may be restored to active service again?

the F-111's has been retired 15 years ago or so

check this out:
http://www.wtfnoway.com/

you'll need a lot of those to restore, repair, update and operate the F-111 with better new tecnology

one more important reason also is that the F-111 was replaced with the F-15E

another one more important, is that the USAF wants just new 5gen fighters

they dont want more F-16s or F-15s... less a bunch of old-retired-outdated-costly-mothballed-rusty F-111s

Ha, ha, ha, nearly lost a mouthfull of coffee when I saw this thread. if only, if only. Seriously though, those Ravens might be worth restoring/upgrading.

Maybe if we could spend ourselves out of debt, bringing back the F-111 would make sense. Although, the F-4 is a WAY better choice if we're going to start pulling 3rd gen aircraft out of AMARG. Why don't we just let a private non-profit organization ONE F-111 back to flight status. Good enough? One is already flying an old F-4D.

The Ravens should've never been retired, but.....at this point, it'd be ridiculous to try and bring them back.

Well, i think that the F-111 should be brought back. I mean, it retired last year, and it has variable sweep wings.

Now I don't know why this is on the F-22 forum.

They ARE a good desert fighter, and from my research, i discovered that that it could also be a strategic bomber.

Now something i don't get is how the B-1 goes supersonic.

Have you ever worked one? .. Do the research and you will see why they are in moth balls now.

F-111s were retired in 1996(EF-111s) in 1998. There are no new sources for spare parts, nor enough airframes to cannibalize, to keep flying. They are no longer survivable against modern air defenses, which is another reason that they were retired. We have the F-15E now, which more broader capabilities. As for B-1s, the original A models could reach M2, so I'm not sure why you're having difficulty understanding why they can reach supersonic speeds.
