thought i would start here. I'm currently working backshop for ew/lantirn pods. just got put on the NCORP list and have 2 afsc's to train into. 2a7x5 (low observance structural mx) or 2a3x2. doesn't have a shred but i will be asking for "A" shred. we're thinking that since most of the NCORP list for our field is from eglin, they are trying to stand up the new 33rd wing here at eglin and they want us to xtrain so they don't have to pcs anyone and save money.
what im asking is what can i expect as flight line avionics? what are the hours like, deployment rates, bases available (to include 35 if known).
anything would be nice to know as im trying to stay in the avionics side of mx since thats where my degree is heading.

Dude, do yourself a favor and go 2A3X2. 2A7X5, you are going to get stuck in the L.O. shop if you stay at Eglin. That is NOT somewhere you want to be (unless you want cancer). Those guys are CONSTANTLY working and not one of those guys I've talked to likes their job. Just imagine breathing fumes from god knows what kind of chemicals all day everyday and never getting a break from work. There are always jets in L.O. They also get called out to aircraft all the time to drill screws out, pick panels, fix nut plates....and on and on and on. Or imagine this, a 2A3X2 needs you to pick a panel to remove a part. You pick the panel. The jet goes back into L.O. for restore. You have the jet/panel almost restored. Another jet breaks for the same problem the jet you are restoring had and super (in his infinite wisdom) decides to CANN the new part out of the jet you are restoring. So now you have almost completed restore on the panel and I come up to you and ask if you can re-pick it so I can take that part out. Now you have to accomplish all you work all over again. It happens all the time to those guys. Avionics is the better way to go man. Hands down.

yes, i've done some research and definitely leaning towards avionics. hopefully i can stay at eglin for the f-35's avionics. i've done some research, but with all the transfer of aircraft between bases, do you know the possible assignment locations for the 35/22?

Dude, don't do any more research. I'm telling you from first hand experience, you want avionics given the two possibilities! Choices of bases as of now? F-22: Edwards, Nellis, Elmendorf, Langley, Tyndall, and Hickam. Holloman has them as of now but is in the process of getting rid of them and transitioning to vipers. F-35, your choices are Edwards or Eglin. Future assignments for F-35 will include Luke and Hill as more come off the line. More 35 assignments after that but will be a few years. Keep in mind the AF will place you where ever they need you and not necessarily where you want to go (as I'm sure you know having been in already).
