Bombs are back in action.
Danish fighter jets can again use the bomb type that was taken out of service after having missed the targets in Libya.
The Danish F-16 pilots have been given another weapon in the fight to protect Libya's civilian population against attacks from the country's leader Muammar Gaddafi.
The bomb type that on 6 June was taken out of service after three bombs had missed their targets has come back into the Danish fighter, says Michael Langberg, press officer at The Danish Tactical Air Command.
tested bombs
- We have not found any error in the bombs, and therefore we take them into use again, he says and continues:
- We have tested them by throwing a number of bombs in the desert, so we were sure that nothing happened if they missed. And it went on as planned.
It has not been possible to examine the three bombs that failed on 6 June, since they do not know exactly where they hit.
Instead, there is therefore carried out a number of practice throws with the bomb type under controlled conditions where all the bombs functioned properly.
A busy day
Tactical Air Command estimates that the bombs on 6 June fell in open country and that there was no collateral damage.
The Danish pilots have been busy over the past days, they have completed four missions in several areas between Yafran and Surt. The objectives of the missions was ammunition depots, rocket launchers and military vehicles.
A total of 10 precision bombs was thrown. The Danish F16 have dropped over 500 bombs on the troubled country.
Denmark has a total of six F-16-planes and 110 men stationed at the Sigonella base in Sicily, where the mission has its home.
