| Okay, I know this is a little self-serving, but I wanted to announce the release of a new book on the Viper. It's called <a href="http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0760340323/threefournineA">Viper Force</a> and has great aerial photography of F-16s. I wrote the text from interviews from several Viper Drivers. |

Can't be too self-serving if you neglect to tell people the particulars of how to get their hands on it if interested. Also might not hurt to post a couple of sample pages.
And you really need to do something about that User ID....

| Found this at the Barnes & Noble in Layton, UT the other day. Almost bought it until I saw the $40.00 price tag. Just got back from Utah this evening and ordered it via Amazon for $28.83. It's a beautifully designed book with lots of great information and history. A must have as far as I'm concerned. Can't wait for it to arrive. |

Really looking forward to this one. Started my time with the 56th, then at MacDill, and then on to Torrejon where we carried our Vipers off to war during Desert Storm.
Will be interesting to compare the experiences in the book to my own!

I've been a lurker for quite some time but felt I needed to register to reply to this thread.
I bought two copies of this wonderful book -- one for me and one for a buddy of mine who used to fly Vipers. This book really took him back as he was trained at Luke.
I can't recommend it enough. The photography is outstanding, the quotes are wonderful, and to repeat others, this is an absolute must have for any military aviation enthusiast regardless of platform.
For the record, another wonderful book is "Sled Driver, Flying the Worlds Fastest Jet".

The photography is outstanding and the book has a few of the "in your face" shots that I love.
Some great photos of the big spine Singaporean F-16 and other interesting planes
I will read it as soon as I get a chance.
This is a "must have" in the F-16 section of your library. |

Is anyone else wondering why Crickets was invited to write the text for a Viper book? I'm sure he is a good dude, even for an Eagle driver, but I just don't understand why a Viper expert wasn't asked to contribute. Maybe Viper dudes were asked and they turned Mr Dibbs down and he had no where else to go. At least Gen Neubauer is a credible source.
This would be like asking Jeff Gordon to be an expert on Indy car racing. Why wouldn't you just ask Mario Andretti to do it? (And with deference to NASCAR, this example could be reversed)
This book may appeal to the masses, but it won't ever make it as a classic in my library...just lacks credibility as presented. |

A little harsh, huh? I've read some really good recent books about combat during WWI - none of which were written by WWI Vets. I think 22 years of active duty and over 3200 flying hours including combat gives a person some perspective - no matter what platform they flew them in.

I do see your point...BUT,
Mario Andretti is not an expert on Indy Car(CART) racing....only one CART title in all those many years he raced. A better choice would be Gil De Ferran, or Sabastian Bourdais, or even Rick Mears, who all have multiple CARt titles.
Just wanted to set the record straight on that. |
