A fighter jet has crashed in southern Wisconsin

MADISON, Wis.

Wisconsin Air National Guard officials say in a statement that an F-16 from the Madison-based 115th Fighter Wing went down early Tuesday afternoon near the town of Chester in Adams County during a routine training flight.

The pilot ejected and his condition is being evaluated.

The guard has requested U.S. Air Force investigators probe the cause of the crash. Guard spokeswoman Lt. Col. Jackie Guthrie didn't immediately return messages.

Sad, sad, sad is right. Hate to hear that it might have been 242.

She was one of our very best fliers at Torrejon and Doha during Desert Storm, flying 55 combat missions in 42 days averaging three hours per mission, racking up 41 Code 1's, 2 Code 2's and 12 Code 3's. My friends Scott and Chris crewed her and Conan flew her.

You know, Mike, IF it´s 242 it´s the worst news I´ve received in a very long time - 242 and the whole era with the 614th has been the "kick-off" for my long lasting love with not only US F-16s, but Block-30s in particular!!

Well I can honestly say this news sucks. She was my first jet as a DCC. She was my best jet thru my career. Sad Sad day. Glad the pilot got out but we lost a great bird.

He said it was a RUMOR. No confirmation yet on the tail. Chill out with the rumors until they release it. Then again, the military has perfected the art of the rumor mill, more so than 16 years old girls in high school.

Absolutely true, Fezt!! I couldn´t agree more, but in some cases certain airframes have a special place in a humans heart - in this case the airframe being talked about here has a very special place in my heart due to history and personal "adventures" and I think I speak for at least a few other guys in this regard Wink

Cheers,

Henrik.
