Hey everyone, i'm doing a paper over a historical landmark and i chose Wright-Patt and i was wondering if anyone had any information on the base relating to it's history (its initial purpose, type of jets flown there), buildings, myths about Hangar 18, stuff like that, i don't need much information, just enough to get about a page or two written out because i am supposed to have an interview source for a works cited/ bibliography page.
thanks a lot

| I have a book, printed in the late 80's I think, that covers the history of the base to that point. I was wandering down the main street in Yellow Springs many years ago and the book was sitting on a table in front of a little book store for $5. I will check to see where it is when I go home tonight. |

| In terms of Myths about wright Patt.... My wife watches this stupid ghost hunter show on the sciFI channel. http://www.scifi.com/ghosthunters/ A few weeks ago they had an episode about wright patt being haunted. The AF actually let these clowns go into wright patt and do a investigation into the "reports of paranormal activities at the base." They investigated two locations.....an old house on base that was there before the base even existed and a huge warehouse that the AF uses to design shipping containers for aircraft parts. I was amazed about two things: 1. that the AF had warehouse of that size just to develop boxes! 2. The USAF would actually let these guys on base....they actually sat these guys down with a wing commander so they can report their findings. When I saw the recruiters suv covered in AF recruiting then it all made sense why the AF let them onto the base. Basically the whole thing was a PR gimic. But then do have a public affairs office on every AFB so you might want to contact them to get some more info about the actual history. |

Well I found the book finally. It is a hardback titled, "From Huffman Prairie to the Moon, the History of Wright-Patterson Air Force Base." It looks to be at least 20-25 years old and strangely has no publish date. There is a reference to the 906 TFG in 1983 flying F-4Ds, so my guess is it was printed around 1984-1985. Oddly enough, it does not cover the aliens in Hanger 18.
If there is something specific you want me to look up let me know. |
