| That's the obvious part, but the point is, everyone gets p*$$ed when you see one of the sedans taxi out with an empty hole. Maybe in the near future, the ops tempo will slow down enough that more people could get rides if they wanted them...and at the risk of repeating myself, the AF needs to be a little more proactive in prioritizing incentive rides. The Crew Chiefs need to go over anyone else, period. We've said it time and again on this site, and everyone knows that in a perfect world, that's the way it should be, but it doesn't happen. It really sucks too, and again, now that I fly for a living, it p*$$es me off even more. |

| D@mn right Sixer! Let me put it this way, if you're out there, busting your Alpha on the line, working up a sweat, and putting people's lives in your hands with your work on the plane, and you're doing a great job, you deserve to be rewarded with a ride. |

As a former E-3 aircrew member ..I applaud the hard work done by the maintainers...and yeah I support crew chiefs getting rides.
I was lucky enough to get to fly in an F-4G, F-15D,E, F-16D during my stint.
That being said... what about the A-10 and F-22 crew chiefs who also work hard??????
A friend of mine who crews A-10s rolled his eyes looking at some of the things said in this topic.
Wait until the F-35 comes along......he says. |

| Hog and Raptor maintainers should at least be hooked up with an incentive in another jet. Then again, you're trolling in another unit's waters, and well, you and I both know how squadron and wing scheduling goes Siesta...especially for someone who is decidedly, an "outsider". Still, they need to try and do something for them, and and the others who work around the "Sedans" and still get hosed. |

| why dont we give rides??...I waited 15yrs to go for a ride in a 14, checked out in the sim... can even catch the 3 wire on the sim @ OCEANA, even with my father n law being in congress, it will NEVER happen..Those days are LONG GONE...Reason being: just recently (you USAF guys may have heard this) high over NELLIS a VF-213 blacklion F-14D gave a rare VIP ride on its FERRY to the BONEYARD....well the backseater after about only 4 mins of flight time and a few -G's, our vip freind (a U.S.NAVY CAPTAIN-think a destroyer), found he needed to adjust himself from sliding down in the seat...NEED I SAY MORE....NO,NO, dont grab that yellow and black handle to pull yourself up!!!!! yep and the next thing that happened including a rush of air, the light had illuminated RIO HAS EJECTED.. the pilot recovered the plane i think at NELLIS OR FALLON, missing his vip, canopy, ejection seat.........AND THIS WAS AN OFFICER....lol, as for the 14 It would not be considered a LEGAL flight unless you had an actuall RIO in the backseat....im guessing do to the fact that a 16BorD has duall cockpits with eitherpilot being able to completly fly it.. a 14 having limited avionics access with out the RIO... Question??? can an f-16 manually overide the ability for the backseater to take control of the plane? we had this prob in the F-4 in vietnam...just wondering if a vip could overide pilot....ANY CHICK WHO GETS A FREE RIDE, SHOULD IN TURN OFFER A FREE RIDE TO THE MAINTAINERS!!!LOL...I didnt say that ......MAINTAINERS SHOULD ALWAYS GO UP AS PART OF MAINTANENCE... BETTER UNDERSTAND THEIR JOBS AND THEIR PURPOSE..... BET YOUD HAVE A HAPPIER, BETTER WRENCH.... |

The 16 flight control sticks are not mechanically linked, there is a switch in the cockpit which can be configured to allow either pilot to take command depending on who is sitting where. The throttles are however mechanically linked the restriction s that the backseater cannot go into burner or cutoff but has full range through idle and mil. To answer your question no a VIP would never be in a position to override the pilot on the flight controls, that switch is always in the fwd position and the VIP's always ride in the back on incentive rides, but they could fight with the throttle to a certain extent. |

| That flight control override switch is in the front cockpit on the left console aft of the FLCS panel near the probe heat switch. Whichever cockpit the switch is positioned to can override the other cockpit's stick input by depressing the Autopilot disconnect (paddle) switch. the FLCS then listens to the command cockpit. |

I am a civilian, never been in an aircraft and am 25 years old. Is tehre anyway in which I could someday get a ride in an f-16? In other words, could one fly an f-16 for fun without being from the airforce, navy etc..?[ ] |

No
Well, become a 25 year old celebrity, star athlete, newspaper reporter and you might have a chance.
But realistically... No. |

Tell me one thing....If I know the president, and he agrees to let me fly it and orders the chief of air staff to let me to, can I pilot it any number of times...?
what I mean to ask is how do the celebs get to do it never having flown a plane in tehir life? Is it by permission of the supreme commander of teh armed forces? |

I don't know what country you are from but in the U.S. where the military is severely trying to cut costs I don't think the president would have the power to let some guy just waste tax payer money and fly a multi-million dollar aircraft. Celebrities don't even get to fly the planes the most they get is backseat rides. |

No is the simple answer. There might be civilians with enough money to buy it, but according to any nations law it is illigal.
Try again in about 40+ years time when all the Vipers are retired from ALL airforces of the world. You just might get one.... |
