A 5+ minute, 38+ MB video of the F-22 at Edwards. Includes formation flying, external tank tests, icing tests, live missile/flare/chaff firings... recommended!!!

I'm just glad I get to work at a place where I can see live video feed of the F-22 through my eyeballs. Great video though H2! |

TC, I'm jealous! I just can't wait to see one in person at Nellis in November! I hope it flies, but it'll still be cool to see it on the ground . |

I'm sure it will fly, if you're going there for an airshow. I think the OT guys at Nellis fly their Raptors more than the 43rd FS does at Tyndall. Of course, that's just my opinion, I could be wrong. If you've never seen a Raptor fly, it's a pretty neat sight. It's roughly the same size, and makes about as much noise as an Eagle; which if you've never seen the F-15 Demo flight, is also a good show.

TC, the only reason I'm unsure if the Raptor will fly is because of what I've seen on the Nellis Air Show web site. They list the F-22 as a military static display, but not as a military performer. Then again, they don't list the F-16 as a performer, either. It's kind of strange that they have the F-14 and F-18, but not the Viper . I really hope you're right!
I've seen just about every US military jet in service since Vietnam fly at one time or another, and they all put on a good show . I love to see my tax dollars at work ! I just wish they'd make Raptor station wagon so I could get an incentive ride.... Hey, I can dream, can't I ? |

Not sure if a Raptor can execute a Cobra. The airframe is stressed to handle the G-load obviously. It does have vectored thrust, so I guess it could be possible. Then again, I never have seen one perform anything much more spectacular than making a low pass over the Tyndall runway in full AB, but that was at the airshow. Usually, I see them lift off, put the gear in wells and punch holes in the sky. Now, I have witnessed some excellent starts to F-15 incentive rides, and the alert F-16s scramble on arbitrary contacts. Very impressive stuff. |

The Raptor can do a snap maneuver and get up to 60-80 AoA, its not the same as a Cobra, it is a more controllable and repeatable maneuver than any Sukhoi Cobra. The Flanker once the stick is pulled back through the control limit stops is overrided in pitch control mode, the aircraft performs the maneuver safely only because of a peculiarity in the pitch stability curve, good at low end, crap in the middle range and automatically recovers at extremely high AoA. The Raptor on the other hand stays in its pitch curve during its high AoA maneuvers, with adequate pitch control even without thrust vectoring.
There's plenty of vids at the official site.

The videos pop up in their own menu box, some good stuff in there. |

As a Flight Test Engineer, I only got to fly tubs (or worse ), so the announcement that 2-seat Raptors were canceled was a devastating piece of news. Then JSF followed. The only consolation was a tour to Eglin where at least I got some Block 50 time. |

I clicked on the link and the file didn't download it just took me to some weird air plane page, the site did have a few movies on it but not the one you described. I think your link has gone bad.
Is there a link that works that you could give me? I'm really interested in seeing this video. |

The WashingtonPost.com has an online video feature they did with Lt. Col. James Hecker, who commands the 27th Fighter Squadron at Langley AFB.
It has some great <a href="http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/mmedia/business/040105-5v.ram" rel="nofollow" target="new">footage of the F/A-22 pre-flighting and in-flight</a> (Realaudio RAM file).

Yes the F-22 could should the pilot ever decide to perform the air show maneuver. The F-22 can do the helicopter and several other maneuvers which are more difficult than the Cobra.
In one video a F-22 was doing the helicopter and keeping the piper on a aircraft that was falling tail first! The F-22 was stable decending at the same rate the other aircraft was falling. The F-22 was circling around the falling aircraft, keeping a gun track on the falling aircraft!
The Discovery Channel did a program on the F-22 and during the program they showed (about fifthteen seconds) a F-22 keeping a gun track on the middle (the center of the fuselage) of a Su-27! You could tell by the movement the Su-27 was maneuvering significantly, it did not seem to make any difference to the F-22.
The Russian Air Force loves the cobra because they still believe in the furball and that most dogfights will degenerate to a guns battle.
