Anyone know what has happened to the previous block 32's the T-birds were using a couple of years ago? Sitting somewhere at Nellis? AMARG? I still believe giving them the block 52's was a waste.

Of the C-models: 4 went to Sheppard as an instructional airframe, 3 were sent to AMARG, 1 went to a yet unknown unit (but still operational), 1 is preserved in a museum.
Of the D-models: 1 went to Sheppard as an instructional airframe and 1 was sent to AMARG.

Greets,

I am sure that somebody said the same thing when they got the Block 32's in the early 90's.

The block 52s are something of an odd ball. There is only one other location besides Nellis where they are located. So, they have a newer air frame for a few years and are located with the majority of the other block 52s. Probably a wise location for them.

Well the upgrade improves performance not to mention if they ever have to hang munitions on them and send them to war, they'll be up to date and ready.

Yeah your right, but it'll be too late for the Guard units that will be closed down by then, because there wasnt enough aircraft to keep them open. "When the T-birds got them back in the 90's??" Come on, LM was stil building them and units were getting F-16's left and right. Alot has changed since the 90's my friend.

Guys, please stick to the topic. We are not discussing the sence of replacing the block 32 with the block 52 here. This was just a question where those airframes are now.

We have four of them here at AMARG, they came in on trucks, paint stripped, wings, tail, & stabs removed. You would never know they were T-Birds.

All the way from Hill AFB I guess uslugg1? That's where I saw them stored in April last year!

Regards

Yeah Mark, they haven't been here very long, but they are former T-Birds. We had a few F-18 Blue Angels here also. Just shipped one of those back out, it's going to be overhauled and sent back to where it came from.

Might be coming out to AMARG for CDDAR class. Uslugg1, think I'd be able to see those old T-birds and Blue Angels? Why were they at Hill? Were they flown in, or trucked in? When was this?

OK, my bad! We actually have 2 D-models and 4 C-models. I'm pretty sure they've been here for about a year or so. They're not much to look at because the paint has been completely stripped and all flight controls, wings, stabs, engine, canopy, vertical tail, etc. have been removed. The only Blue Angel is on "display row."

AAFG0632 87-0325 ex Thunderbirds

They indeed doesn't look like a thunderbirds anymore.
