Hey everyone, my name is Chris. As you can probably tell, I'm new here and am seeking some guidance.
I am a junior in highschool with an unweighted [Link pending approval] GPA, ranked 16/114 as of the end of my Sophomore year, and have not taken the SAT or ACT yet (I'll be taking these soon though). My best PSAT scores are 69 math, 63 writing, 61 crit. reading. I am not currently taking any AP classes (though i am technically in a "college level" Spanish class) but plan on taking several my senior year. I am a serious bodybuilder/strength lifter and plan on acing every aspect of the physical fitness test. I have been playing baseball for over a decade with numerous leagues and teams (primarily as a catcher or pitcher), including my school's varsity baseball team. I have taken a few years of karate and was also once a boy scout (resigned due to parental issues).
I am a member of the National Honor Society and was one of three invitees out of a 100 person group to attend a mathematics/science governor's school during the summer (I denied this invitation as I was given just a day to consider it, but may possibly take up the chance if it may provide any benefit in my chances of going to USAFA?). I am currently considering joining the Civil Air Patrol (someone told me it wouldn't be worth it at this point) and have recently signed up to my school's Key Club and plan on getting as many hours of service as i can in the amount of time i have left (at least 15-30). I am already taking lessons for my Private Pilot License. I have been flying in simulators since i was 4 years old and have loved them since the first day i tried one.
I will likely be Varsity Baseball Team Captain next year and am considering joining the football team as well if it would help my cause (and I would most definitely be playing Varsity as well). I am also going to run for Senior Class President next year, the election for which will yield results mid-September, and I believe I have a pretty good shot at winning.
However, I currently have no hard community service to speak of and have not really joined any particular school-hosted clubs aside from what I mentioned above. Am i competitive for USAFA? If not, what should I do to improve my chances? I will provide further details if I have forgotten anything. My current #1 priority and goal is to make it into the Academy no matter what I have to do, and any guidance or even any general information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time. |

| Get a decent SAT score and you'll be in just fine. You're doing all the right stuff. Just realize it's a long 4 years of little sleep and lots of stress, specially if you want to keep getting all those A's. Great education though, and maximises odds of becoming a pilot if that's your goal. That's what got me through. |
