It seems that Chinese already think they can beat the Raptor easily.
Conversely many here always think that F-22 is invinciable, do you keep your opnion still or things changing now? |

I laugh every time I see an artist's impression of a plane in combat still sporting the air data probe instead of a radar. |

At least China can finally claim a somewhat original design with the J-20
Unlike the J-31 which looks like a kitbash of the F-22 + F-35 |

The J-20 have an design that clearly isn't a carbon copy of another aircraft, but IMO, neither is the J-31. One can perhaps say that it is inspired by the F-35 and the F-22, but the looks of aircrafts that are designed to do the same tasks are often alike. The requirements kinda dictates the looks of the aircrafts, they all travel in the same air.....
And the differencies are more than the equities, the different wing sweep, wing size/tail size Taper ratio and so on shows that the requirements are probably somewhat different. What they are I don't know, but I don't believe the Chinese just carbon copy the design, it is developed with the same mindset as GD or L-M does, and the personell designing the planes are probably just as skilled as the ones in the west.
Believing othervise would just be to fool oneself.

| I wonder if we will find out like the Chinese helicopter that it is a Russian design? It is not a leap to extrapolate that the J-31 design is very reminiscent of the F-22/35. Design wise the YF-22 and YF-23 had the same design criteria and look nothing alike, as well as X-32/35. |

Is that two different engines, or just two different nozzle settings? |

I'd say two different engines, (and two different nozzle settings as well) look at the color of the nozzles. OTOH this is prototyope no 2, on other pictures it have had two silver nozzles like the LH engine in the picture. prototype no 1 have had engines with nozzles with a metal finish, like the RH engine. Either the engines are interchangeable or..... Well, your guess is as good as mine. Some readers fluent in chinese probably have better info as well.

At least this is actual footage of their 5th gen.
Remember when they were trying to pass Top Gun footage as part of their tech demonstrator and everybody on the internet called them out on it. |

Yes and no. The YF-23 looked nothing like the F-22 and the X-32 looked nothing like the F-35. Furthermore, when the ATf (F-22) competion was going NONE of the entries resembled one another. Personally I wonder if (as with their new attack helicopter) the Chinese had help from the Russians. It looks like a Mig 1.44 with "lessons learned" from seeing what everybody else is doing to achieve stealth. |

A nice video of J-20 prototype 2 flying (and one J-10B).
According to Alert5 you can see the launch rail of the bay 4:30 in to the video , but you have to look twice to spot it....

What is the single vertical canard-delta that flies overhead in the late middle of that video? |
