hello all,

My question concerns the ANG jocks out of south Carolina, DC, or Vermont. (i ask specifically because i'm pursuing an UPT slot somewhere on the east coast in a fighter squadron.)

Firstly; what is your location and how do you like it ?
secondly; how often do you fly and what sorts of missions do you fly if at all ?
and lastly(since i have your attention); what type of student were you, what other activities do you enjoy, and did you require any waivers ?

but most importantly, converse about your awsome job and airframe. i don't mean to seem nosy but i just eat, sleep, and consume 'piloting' on a daily basis, help me get my fix! Laughing

thanks for your time, Nick

I am a pilot with the 187th Fighter Wing (Alabama ANG/ACC) and we fly block 25 F-16Cs. I fly approximately 10-12 times month for training and maybe 6-8 times a month on the NORAD Alert Detachment. I fly maybe 3 times a month on Noble Eagle Homeland Security Patrols.

Yeah. Block 25? This article from 2006 has 'em in Block 30s. (emphasis mine)

Quote:
January 23, 2006 (by Stefaan Vanhastel) - On Saturday, Col. Jeffrey S. Smiley took over command of the 187th Fighter Wing, Alabama ANG, from from Brig. Gen. Stanley E. Clarke. The 187th FW is based in Montgomery, AL, and flies block 30 F-16s.

But hey...what do I know?

Looking for clarification. The Wing's Facebook Page says that they fly Block 30s.

Yes, ALANG has Block 30's. Not sure who that guy is that says he's a pilot from ALANG. You would think they would know what block they fly? Also, ALANG is not ACC, its HORSE.

"Know what block they fly"

sh*t happens; actually the only place it should happen is at Edwards.
The place you can jump into a jet that may be anything from a blk 10 to 52, (or even 60 but LM deals with them) then you may jump into a 25 that has digital flight controls and OBOGs, then maybe into a kinda blk 25, but was modded to a big mouth GE fire breathing dragon, has heavy weight gear doors but light weight gear? Your told to run a small mouth 25 and get the appropriate run screen, come to find out the landing gear lights are mounted on the NGD so you have to go back and get the screen adapter! Your task to run a block 50, and you open 70-00-01 and the idle fuel flow is 2000pph, then you realize you grabbed the 70-00-01 for a 52? We have small mouth and large mouth 30’s, some painted as clowns and others standard!
Good stuff … and we won’t even go there for the ORANGE stuff!

What is HORSE aside from being a basketball game I am no good at?
