Nonetheless, a next gen SH block (or current block upgraded accordingly) should indeed come equipped (be upgraded) with multi-spectral, spherical coverage, eo threat-warning apertures. At least one platform in the flight might also be equipped as 'Growler lite'..
I guess that is the point of the Super Hornet 'International'...
Still, the Super Hornet roadmap has plenty of work on it's plate, with the aformentioned IRST, completing ALE-55 work, continual upgrades on distributed targetting and further EW improvements, not to even mention the Growler.
The thing that many overlook, when discussing the Super Hornet, is the capability that it already has, compared to many of it's contemporaries. One can criticise it for lacking certain capabilities sure, but consider how many of it's contemporaries have such capability or can even boast about that which the Super Hornet already has?
For it's price, it is by far the most advanced combat aircraft on the planet and has a properly funded roadmap to improve that even further... |
