Years back during the early days of F-22 testing, it was disclosed that its AESA radar had the ability to transmit very high bandwidth communications, with speeds in the multi-gigabit range. With AESA's ability to be focused in a very narrow beam, this would appear to provide a degree of security against eavesdropping by anyone except the recepient. The increase comm speeds would probably be analogous to switching from coppper to fiber optic cable. Anyone know if this tech will be going operational anytime soon?

The interesting question here is the receiver end. Dunno when it will be available at all, maybe BACN could be a starting point, but that programme appears to be troubled at the moment.

If the aircraft is facing forward towards the enemy (presenting its lowest rcs aspect), how would it transmit to aircraft behind it? Back lobes? Does the apg-77 even emit significant side and back lobes?
