| So apparently a US Navy F-18 squadron from Oceana NAS, in VA did the flyover at the super bowl in Arlington, TX instead of the local, Fort Worth based, Marine F-18 squadron (VMFA-112). Additionally the dome at the stadium was closed. This seems kind of absurd to me. They should have closed the dome after the fly over (if they could) and SHOULD HAVE used the local F-18 squadron. Thoughts? |

| Due to the snow buildup on the dome, there was no way it could be opened for the game. As for who does the flyover I suspect NAS Oceana was picked because the local unit wasn't available or otherwise able to do it. What seems silly is a flyover when the dome is in fact closed. |

Modern Military Forum?? jk.
Also, if an assumed coin flip gave the flyover to Navy rather than AF, it would make sense to give the actual flyover honor to a USN group, vs USMC? Note: there might be some recruitment incentive and purpose included into the decision? |

| I figure TX is hosting the event, it might as well be a local unit that provides the flyover. VMFA-112 is a reserve unit, I bet they would've been able to provide aircraft for the super bowl. If not, Fort Worth JRB could've sent F-16s. It's all up to the top brass I guess. I'll never be able to understand flag officer reasoning. As for the snow, in Dallas it's pretty much all melted away. I imagine the same for Arlington. Anyways, it seems as if tax payer dollars were kind of wasted. |

| Demos are usually done by fleet replacement squadrons. |

| Or we can guess our Ft Worth crews wanted to stay home and watch the game, make the Navy/USMC guys miss it... |

If NAS Fort Worth was asked for volunteers to fly the superbowl, I guarantee you there would be enough pilots from the 457 FS or VMFA-112 to do the fly over. Not everyone in the military cares about football or the superbowl. I never did. Many, like myself, would rather play ball than watch it. |
