Now that the USAF is only getting 186 F-22s, what will replace the rest of the F-15C/Ds and F-15Es?

A portion of the F-15s will be replaced by the F-35. The F-15E might be replaced by a new future combat aircraft or later on by additional F-35. We'll see the Mud Hen will soldier on until at least 2035.

~178 F-15Cs will remain in service till 2025-2030. F-15Es will remain in service till ~2030-2035, A-10s will remain in service till ~2025-2030, etc.... Till there's another fighter designed and fielded, a certain percent of legacy forces will serve alongside F-22s and F-35s.

Here's a question; what's going to allow the F-15C/D fleet to stay in operation until 2027? I've heard of a handful of aircraft getting the APG-63V3 AESA set, but that's it. I believe some other aircraft have been updated with the older APG-63V2 AESA set. I've seen newer pictures showing the addition of a MPD in the cockpit. That's all I know. It hardly sounds like it's enough. I figure there would be a MASSIVE update in order to keep the F-15C/D fleet flying another 20 years or so.

The only AESA program for the F-15C is the V3 set, not the V2. The F-15Es are getting the APG-82.

The V2 program was a small scale development of the APG-63 program. As of now all future F-15C upgrades are only V3 in nature.

I see. What else is in store for the F-15C/D fleet? I imagine structural upgrades and strengthening is obvious if it is to fly for another 20 years. A new modern glass cockpit makes sense. From what I know, all C/D model Eagles can carry CFTs. I wonder if that makes these legacy aircraft compatible with the conformal internal weapons bays that the Silent Eagle uses. It would be nice to see some of the avionics from the F-22/F-35 fleet make it into the Eagle. Is all of this too much to ask for?

What will replace the F-15s? A plane that has parity with the F-15s flight performance. Its only bonus is that it will have a more advanced avionics suite and a certain degree of LO. The F-22s are a silver bullet force. The Golden Eagle is a joke, for it truly is a golden oldy of an airplane. But not to worry, for the world ends in a little over 2 years and our USAF will maintain air supremecy for the remaining time left.

What's so funny about it? No really though, whats so bad about it? I'd have thought it's pretty competitive with nearly everything out there bar the F-22 and Su-35. |

And tell me why it's not competitive with the Su-35? |
