The 82nd Aerial Targets Squadron/53rd Weapons Evaluation Group at Tyndall AFB, part of Eglin's 53rd Wing, is in the process of receiving 6 freshly repainted QF-4s. Each aircraft will represent one historical paint scheme of the F-4. The first aircraft to arrive sported the "Hill 2" paint scheme, similar to that of the F-16. Also the Southeast Asia paint scheme has arrived, and I believe the Europe One jet has as well, but don't quote me on that last one. Alas, I have no pics to present at this time, but hopefully someone else will read this, and help out. I also have no clue as to the final disposition of these aircraft, if they are to be for display, the commander's jet(s), or if they will also be destroyed (hopefully not.) When more news about these F-4s breaks, I will fix it.

PS...Europe One is quite possibly the ugliest paint scheme since the paint scheme(s) of the Ford Pinto.

*L* when I first got to Shaw the RF-4Cs were painted Euro, then they went to the Two tone Grey, I liked the Gray better too. as far as paint jobs I love the German Paint jobs, but dont know what its called, tha over all light Sand color with Green on the upper areas of the wings and Intakes.. Funny thing is we had a 16 at shaw painted Euro for a couple of months, it looked Cool!!!

Got any pics of two tone gray recces? Those are hard to find, and only one squadron got painted right?
BTW, when did you get at Shaw? My dad got stationed here in 88 and helped transition the RF-4s out.

I've got a couple pics of the gray Recon Rhinos. One of them is the last QRF-4C to my knowledge. As I recall, this particular bird took a hard landing, busted some stuff up, and was deemed no longer airworthy. Anyway, the jet sat in the swamp at Tyndall for a long time. Not sure if it's still there or not, as I don't often make over to the swamp storage area. I do, however, have a pic of the jet, and as soon as I find it, I'll post it.

Reading my post again, I may have been too vague. I just meant SW 363rd RF-4Cs. Thanks though.

I don't recall any of Shaw's recces ever having the "Hill 2" scheme. They carried SEA camo for the longest time, and just before the 363rd TFW transitioned to an all Viper wing, they also had Europe One jets. If I find amongst my pics, any Hill 2 painted 363rd Rhinos, I will certainly post one here. I'm still looking for that drone pic too. If nothing else, to view it for the historical significance...The last Recon Rhino drone.

This is the only one I've been able to find. From what I've heard, only a handful were painted gray before they were transistioned out.

I'd like to know where that jet is. Don't like how they folded up the wings though. Must've been some Navy puke that did that. AF birds only did that for maintenance purposes. Looks like an SEA camo-painted Zipper back there behind it...And possibly a Mirage back there too?

I believe that is a museum in Europe, not in the states. Could explain the Origami Phantom....

Nothing in my mind is sleeker then the Phantom. I worked the F-4E at Hahn AB Germany for a few years and the picture of the Recce brought back some fond memories. Would anyone have any pictures of the E models out of Hahn? Every now and then we see the F-4's (from Holloman) stop for fuel. Everyone goes out to watch. Haven't seem them in a while though. Love the photo!

Does anybody know if there is a website as thorough as F-16.net about the F4. The only aircraft I like better than the Viper is the F4.

A friend of mine got a good shot of two of those heritage birds in formation when we were at PhanCon 04 hosted at Holloman AFB.

We got to see 8 F-4Fs takeoff in pairs then they all joined up. What a lot of noise!

Chickenlegs - here you are. There's lot's more where this came from. I chose this pic because of the unusual paint scheme. The original caption says the light green is due to wearing out of the SEA tan, but I think it's an experimental camo scheme that was applied to a number of TAC and USAFE F-4s. Know anything more about it?
