I know it's possible, but how does the process work since they only have 187 of them? And how long would you be flying as a F-22 pilot?
Up until very recently, a nomination was given out of UPT to fly the Raptor, and a second competition was held in an IFF class composed of all the Raptor nominees.
Usually it was a class of 9 and 4 were selected to go on to the Raptor. These 4 completed an 8 ride short-course in the Viper to learn air-refueling and some other important tasks before going to Tyndall for the full Raptor B-course, which is about 9 months long and consists of 50 flights.
However, the competetive system is going away and the next class selected for Raptors has been guarenteed the slot from the start.
As for future in the jet, it's looking very good for new dudes, as they can't produce new Raptor pilots as fast as the need them right now! |
