Our kind and friendly Air Force has donated a beautiful F-16 airframe to the Veterans Administration to be used as a static display at the Dallas Va Medical Center. We have enthusiasm but not a lot of experience in the de-feathering process. We could really use a couple of patriotic mechanics to point us in the right direction at Sheppard. We have crane and transport lined up.

L3 was in but then had to bow out due to the contractual issues presented. LM was curt about not being in a position to help in any way shape or form. If anyone has schematics or photos, that would be great. If anyone is looking for a Saturday project, that would be better.

Thank you in advance

When do you plan on doing the move? I have done several pack and crates, but it's been a few years. PM me and let's see if I can help you out.

Well then Tjodalv, you should go help Viking move her to a good home for all our Veteran Brothers & Sisters in the Greater Dallas (and Texas) area to appreciate! Find some other guys/gals down there to volunteer time/knowledge to help him.

Don't want to see F-16A 0371 end up as scrap aluminum...

Viking, you talked to anyone about getting her a motor, or at least the nozzle assembly? I know they're converting some of the PW-100s into PW-200s for use in the QF-16 Drone program, but there will surely be some engines that aren't good candidates due to age or damage. If not maybe you can score 15 "Turkey-Feathers" and engineer a 'dummy' nozzle?

A little off topic, but why are those B-52's motors just sitting on the ground? I know it's a ground trainer, but why leave the motors laying there like that?

I wish I could, but I'm not in much of a position to be of any help. Sad If I hear of anyone that could help though, I'll send them over here!

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I will post the takedown party date as soon as we get it. Just need the expertise to quickly take down so we can get it off base before they get all excited and change their minds.

Lots more work to demil a viable a/c, is she timing out? I will bet I can find her a local home. Ours is already stripped out and almost dry.

They have tried to move her along and have been stripping down for parts. Minot wanted her in the worst way, but no way to transport that makes sense.

Question: when we remove the access panels, is it going to pull up the paint and sealant? I'd just as soon not have to repaint Laughing

Shouldn't have a problem with damaging the paint unless they painted over the seems when in was brought to Sheppard. Some of the panels have seals beneath them (fuel tank panels) but if they get damaged you could get some liguid gasket to seal them back up.

I snagged a factory GD(General Dynamics) F-16A model today at an antique store. Pristine- I must have a lucky star or something. Smile
