A mention of box lunches in an article that I was reading reminded me of the many times we used to get them while TDY. My favorite box lunches came from Nellis AFB. We used to pick them up at the Flight Kitchen over by the ballfield, as I recall.

I am sure that fighter guys don't have a fraction of the opportunities to see box lunches as the guys who fly and crew the heavies.

My question to the community: What was your favorite place to get box lunches and why?

Actually fighter guys see more of them than you'd think. Although, not as many as the heavies. I've ate box lunches on ever mil air flight (C-17, C-5, C-130, KC-135, KC-10) flight I've ever been on. We also eat them at home station when we are pressed for time and TDY also. When I was in Guam a couple years ago, that's all we ate for lunch for 6 months. Best ones I've had were in Guam. The best ones were tuna, grilled chicken sandwiches, and chicken patty sandwiches. There way a bunch of sides you could get with them too. Potato salad, pasta salad, chips, fruit, candy, yogurt. As good as they were, we got real tired of them after six months and chow hall was always better.

I have to agree, the grad and go in Guam is the best. We would grab them and stash them in coolers for our sight seeing trips on the island. Now the worst, has to be Hickam. That place must be the repository for every screw up in the USAF.
