Its all of what you make of [Link pending approval] was definitely not my first choice when I was there from 2003-2005 but you need to make the best of it. The place is really expanding with franchises & hotels. I'm told its a good place for families and I know a lot of people retire there as well due to the cost of living. Some love the place, some hate it, just make the best of it and move on if its not for [Link pending approval]

Best feeling I ever had at Cannon was seeing Clovis in my rear view mirror in 1998.

Synergycft is right, the town is slowly but steadily getting more franchises. There's not a lot in the area outside the town, but all in all, if you have a good attitude about it, it's not as bad as many would have you believe. I'm leaving in 2 weeks, and my wife and I have made a lot of friends in the town who we will miss. With spec ops on its way in, I'm sure there are bigger and better things in the works for the town.

Anyone have the skinny on Cannon right now? I had read somewhere that it was goint to become a SOF base and the home of the 16th SOW!? is that right? I guess that Goldwater Range would be a great place to chew up with AC-130s but I wondered if anyone had heard this?
How's the ops tempo right now? busy and SOP or are folks packing up yet? |

Special Ops will stand up their new wing here at Cannon on Oct 1 next year. They will be bringing in C-130's (AC im sure), helo's, and CV-22's later on. The 523 and 524 should be gone by this coming spring and the 522 is stuck here untill early 08.

I was there last wednesday and they were flying quiet a bit and I got there early afternoon. I come from Lubbock to go watch them fly. Busy as I have seen them in a while.

We have been told its "business as usual" until the last jet leaves the base. Hell, we are still on the hook to deploy.
