| I have over 18yrs in and will be retiring at 20yr mark. Looking for information on jobs and/or people to connect with at the Depot on Hill AFB. I was stationed there from 1999-2008 with the 388th. |

Look into the Logistics side for jobs.
Such as Equipment Specialist or Material Manager.
If you have a Supply background the MM Field is best, or a Maintenance Background the ES is best.
30% Veterans status is a huge step towards getting in the door.
Another option is attending college. There is a program called SCEP you will want to engage.

The pay is not so great till you complete school but then you would step into the position you will be occupying.
It is not easy to work and go to college but in the overall it is a great program where you gain experience while you go to school.
We have many MM people whom are SCEP's. |

| Mustang, I believe "Meathook" works at Ogden ALC. Drop him a PM. If he can't help you, I would imagine that he has a contact or two who can. |

| Ixtlan, I just completed 2 yrs as a Equipment Custodian here at Ramstein for the C130's and am moving back to the Flightline to finish my time out until i retire. If i could land a job as a EC or MM that would be great, what qualifications are required? Would I have to do the SCEP route? |

Dont know what a Equipment Custodian is per say.
Equipment Specialist's those who write and maintain your tech orders. But that is just a small piece of the job.
They are also responsible for provisioning, cataloging, R&D of new items, future requirements to sustain a system, the list goes on and on.
You work side by side with Engineers and are the Common Sense Experienced part of the team.
Also you need to be computer literate and adept at learning systems quickly (Computer, and Aircraft).
A mechanic hands on background is a huge requirement. Not so much in the system you will be assigned but more experience on what can and cant be done.
You will learn your system and the bits and pieces and fine points as you gain experience in it.
Also you need to be proactive and have the ability to recognize problems in advance as well as figure out what went wrong when it does.
ES's are the ones who handle the DR system (now JDRS) and investigate much of what goes wrong with an item.
You must be a person that will dig deep into issues and also be the person that will call a kettle black when required.
You are also the fields, manufacturers, and Material Managers [Link pending approval] for questions about technical problems they encounter with anything to do with your system.
You will go to your Engineer when you cant answer a question or something more like stress or damage assessment comes up beyond your technical expertise or tech order specifications. Hand in Hand you work with them for sure.
You are your Program Managers right hand when it comes to the technical or requirements side.
It is not an easy job by any means., and has an expect two year learning curve till it all starts to click.
A good ES is a systems Make or Break pivot point.
You will go home dead tired every day from brain drain if you are doing your job.
SCEP is a fast track but not the only way. |
