Well... in a news article I'm having a bit of trouble believing, a Russian Helicopter company has announced it's intentions to build a "5th Generation Helicopter".

It will apparently be designed with stealth or "radar invisibility", have the ability to fly at 370mph (Shocked ) and...be able to combat fighter jets.

http://www.foxnews.com/scitech/2010/05/ ... latestnews

I didn't know helicopters could go that fast, let alone combat fighter jets...

I wonder if the translation or Fox News confused KPH with MPH? Traditional helicopter rotor systems definitely cannot get anywhere near that.

Maybe with a co-axial rigid-blade rotor system like the Sikorsky S-69 had you could push 300 knots, that'd be the only way I'm aware of to get around retreating blade stall problems.

"Ivashov said that with sufficient investment and good organization the new helicopter could be built within five years."

I think his vodka has passed its expiration date .....

Umm theoretical maximum is around 220 kts...

The current record is 217.5Kts, as held by the Westland Lynx.
