Haven't had any personal experience with G.Skill, they're relatively new in the market, you'd have to go by what kind of reviews they get. It looks like they specialize in high performance RAM.

With the video cards, there are 5770s that have a more compact footprint, like 8"-8.5". Also keep in mind that for some dumb reason most of them put the power connectors on opposite edge from the video cables rather than on the "top" edge. So if you have 9.5" available and get a 9" card, that half inch may not be enough to squeeze in a 6/8 pin power connector, they're pretty beefy gauge and inflexible.

I have 10" available but I couldn't find a 5850 or 5830 at 9" even. 5770 should be enough.

Have you ever had experience with AMDs?

I don't really have a side in the CPU faction war. I used AMD processors up until the Core2 Duos came out, since then I've used Intels. AMD definitely wins on the performance per dollar measure, I mean their flagship top of the line processor is only $190. But it's still slower than the i7 CPUs and yet consumes 50% more power. In my mind the extra $90 is worth it. YMMV...

Wow, AMD's power consumption is way higher compared to 860, @Newegg, the highest priced AMD is $190 and 860 is 279 like you said... For the long run i7 seems to be the way to go. It is good to hear from both sides of the house and learn. I learned quite a bit in the last two days... 920 and 860 is the same price, while it seems Newegg sold more 920s than the 860s...
