Would anyone be willing to describe a typical loadout for a USAF Victor Alert F-16A or C from back in the Cold War days ?

Guessing two drop tanks, centre line ECM pod, B61 on an outboard wing station (or two weapons ??) and no AIM-9s ???

Cheers,

Haydn.

Salute!

WOW!!!!

Great question, heh heh.

First of all, I always liked the two B-61 "dial a nuke" loadout. Could set the suckers for a ripple delivery, maybe a thousand yards interval. Could also crank up the yield to "make sure".

Hell, if I was gonna plow thru all the previous radioactive debris and actually get to the target, then I wanted to make an "impact". I'm not kidding.

The jammers always seemed to be a "drag" and not necessary for survival. OTOH, a few 'winders could come in handy for fighting my way in to ripple those nukes.

Drop tanks depended on the assigned target and your launch base. Considering that you prolly wouldn't make it back for a second sortie ( over 250 REMs and you start to lose control of bodily functions, etc.), I would have preferred a clean config and get to the target. Worry about getting home later.

Hope that answers your question.

They didn't have any of those fluffy bags around your seat in that configuration to shield the pilot? The stuff on the Looking Glass wasn't all that heavy like you'd see in the doctor's office. I wouldn't suspect it would add too much weight.

Thats food for thought - not nice food either!

Was there a way to sync the bombs - if you rippled them would the second get taken out by the explosion of the first ? - not that 1 wouldnt be enough I suppose Shocked

Thanks for the responses chaps. This is for a model building project that will most likely be either a Hahn bird or a Torrejon bird operating out either Injirlik or Aviano. I think I'm safe with 2 fuel tanks, ecm pod and a single nuke.

Cheers,

Haydn.
