Oh wow Viperman. Sorry, but it seems I've been monitoring other channels for the past couple months.
Ok, my gripe with Scott O'Grady was that he was turned into a media hound for just doing his job. The guys who really should've been over-glorified were the Marines who busted their humps to get him out.
O'Grady came back, and had a list of gripes with some of the issue survival equipment, which had to be changed. My thought was: "What? It worked for every other pilot up 'til this point that had to bail out. Are you special?" Of course, not wanting to rock the wrong boats, TC did a lot of kit pulls, and switched out what needed to be changed. Basically, it amounted to changing some light-colored stuff to OD-Green, which is fine until you go down in the desert.
Someone on this site added about O'Grady that the RWR works nicely when you turn it on. He might be a nice guy, but Clinton turned him into a media golden boy, mainly to divert attention from what was under his desk in the Oval Office at that time.
"Uh, you might want to take that dress to the dry cleaner..."
I agree 110%. I have also found that 100% of fighter jocks that I have talked to also agree that he is nothing but an SOB for allowing himself to be that so called "hero". any self respecting fighter jock would have bought a case of liquor for each and every guy who pulled him out. Not to mention, many of the guys I talked to said that it should have been the guys who pulled him out that were marked for the media, not the guy who got shot down. |
