| Global security states the average age of the USAF F-16 fleet as 9 years in 1998, but I know we have retired a lot of older aircraft since then. Does anybody know the average age of the fleet? Please include your source if you have one. I remember hearing that it was around 18 years, but I dont remember where I saw that. Thanks |

I happen to be working on some interesting graphs based on our Aircraft Database: http://www.f-16.net/aircraft-database/F-16
I don't have airframe age per airforce, I do have worldwide fleet age distribution, and the average (worldwide) is 17.8 years. This is calculated from our F-16 Aircraft Database. Since USAF accounts for more than 50% of the fleet, the worldwide average should be a good approximation of the USAF average.
Interesting idea to have average airframe age per airforce as well - I won't have it in the first series of reports (expected in a week or so), but I'll add it to the to-do list

| Thanks Stefaan, good to know I was not too far from the truth. It sounds like a pretty interesting project and I look forward to the result. |
