| I have a few questions regarding the 2A332 program. First off, I am in DEP at the moment. I leave in Mid April. I am completing my 3rd semester at an Electronic Engineering Tech School. I Decided to do Avionics as it has always been a Dream/Aspiration to work on F-16s. However i am curious about the F-22 Program aswell. How does an individual like myself go about getting into a program such as that? Do you have to go through the F-16 program to be selected into the F-22 Avionics Program? |

| No you do not have to have prior experience on the F-16 to get into the Raptor program. They are part of the same AFSC now, 2A3X2. We are getting newbs right of tech school on the Raptor. |

| Excellent, I gathered the F-22 program would start increasing in size due to the F-15 being phased out and the given fact that the F-35 are up and coming. I appreciate it. |

| One surefire way to get into F-22 avionics is to join the Virginia Air National Guard. It's currently the only ANG unit to fly the Raptor, so if you get Avionics there, you automatically get Raptors. |

| I signed for Active Duty on a four year term with the Airforce. I have read previous posts about the F-16 Avionics program. Tech School is roughly 3 months correct? |

| I think avionics is much longer than 3 months. |

Tech school is not 3 months. You will spend close to about 12 months in training. Basic training is at Lackland AFB and will last about 10 weeks, Electronic Principles will be about 2 months and the F-16 Avionics Systems course is at Sheppard and will last 5 months. You do not start class as soon as you get to base, you usually have 1-2 weeks before class starts and you are assigned to a processing flight. Good luck, classes are interesting and it is a great program.
Granted, this is how it used to be, but I have not heard of it changing. I went through the program in 2002. |

Funny how they taught us the same stuff in six weeks at Lowry AFB, way back in 1982.

There is a dedicated tech school for Raptors now. I don't think any of the F-16 pipeline students are being sent to F-22s anymore. Tech school is roughly the same length though. |

And they expected you to understand what Kalman filters did and they taught you how to read a "real" scematic (no block diagrams...)
