This is Jan 2001, 89-2121. What's up with the dark gray demarcation line on the camo? I've never seen at Eielson jet with that....Shaw and Kunsan, yeah. Any chance it went to Kunsan for paint?

Also, anybody remember the DCC or assts from that time? Burt Bartley is CO.

Thanks!!

Hi Scott,

Regarding the paint - it is possible that this one went to Korean Air for a paint job as many other PACAF Vipers did so in those years. This paint scheme - and variations of it - was more or less represented in every US Viper unit. Some units as You mention (Shaw, Kunsan) had a lot painted like this, but Osan, Cannon, Moody and a good deal of ANG / AFRC units had so, a well.

As a side note only three Vipers still carry this scheme today - 86-0278 ( in the process of re-paint), 86-0309 and 86-0321 all flying with the VT ANG in Burlington and have carried this unique type of camo since their days with the 8th FW at Kunsan AB, Korea!!

Hope it helps,

Henrik.

That's what I needed to know, because 2121 never spent time in the 8th prior to 2008. I know a bunch of the Shaw and Kunsan jets ended up other places and carried their schemes with 'em....this one was a quandry unless it was sent to Kunsan to be painted at some point.

I say Kunsan, but possible it went to an upgrade facility there for something and came home wearing new paint?

Anybody have other piccies of it from this time period? It got repainted before OEF as a line jet and the decarcation is back standard.

This is it in '91....standard 3-tone scheme scheme.

Hi Scott,

I highly doubt that this photo is from 1995 - I would say more like 1991 / 1992 due to the stenciling amd full painted walk ways.

Greetings,

Henrik.
