Hello!
I've been wondering that how long F-16's production line will be open? We all know that F-16 has been a great success and it has been made nearly 40 years.
Are there any potential customers around which might need a new fighter jet or just replace their current vipers? Taiwan, Romania, Indonesia, new Iraqi air force and Egypt are my wild guesses about new orders... As far as I know Morocco, Turkey, Pakistan and Greece have made the latest orders.
http://www.f-16.net/f-16_users_article21.html says that TUSAS in Turkey is about to build their jets using license. |

No telling … some things are perceived, designed, and built way ahead of their time and won’t go away!
The Viper is in that category! Very good jet!
Other things that come to mind
1. Colt 45
2. Honda civic
3. Toilet
4. Afterburner
5. KFC, McDonalds
6. etc
Personally I think all aeronautical engineers should do a 4 year (active duty) USAF crew chief internship before they are ever allowed to design something!
Until you try to fix someone else’s bullshit and say “who designed this crap”
You will never know what I’m talking about!
And, I like challenging problems |

| The F-16 will almost certainly be the "starter jet" of choice for friendly developing nations for the next 20 or 30 years... cheap, effective, reliable, deadly. |

IMHO, even tho Vipers will still be produced for a few more years yet, after the last foreign order has been completed, the question will be how long does LockMart keep the empty Viper production line active and viable for potential follow-on or new orders? If they haven't gotten anything new after the last jet leaves they can't just listen to the crickets waiting for new buyers to make a decision and getting that deal approved by Congress. That can take years sometimes.
When F-35 FRP spins up it will be the predominant airframe in the plant. Short of setting up parallel lines for both jets, I don't see LockMart keeping the Viper line longer than financially feasible for the company once production ends. |
