I'm working on a project involving the interior of an F-16 wing. Does anyone have, or know where to find, detailed pictures or schematics of the construction of the wing? I am particularly interested in the design of the ribs and main spar.
Thanks,
Geoff |

| There is no main spar. There are 11 spars and 5 ribs. The spars are mostly continuous, and the the ribs are segments between the spars. |

| This Block 40 wing cutaway should give you the general idea. |

Thanks for the cutaway. Unfortunately it doesn't show the leading or trailing edges too, but it's definitely helpful. I also found some good pictures from the technical section of the photo gallery -- though really too many to list here.
Also, in case anyone else is interested, I found a great book in the library. It's actually meant somewhat as a reference for model builders, but it has several pictures of the F-16 inside and out. It's called "F-16 A & B Fighting Falcon : In Detail & Scale" by Bert Kinzey.
I've never visited this site before a week ago when I started my project, but after browsing through the forums I have to say that the level of discussion and willingness of people to help is pretty much unparalleled by any other forum I've visited. Thanks much for the help, I think even after my project is done I'll be coming back here just to learn more about this incredible aircraft. |

Hey Geoff,
What is your project? As far I'm concerned I like a wing that doesn't come off in flight. |

Geoff,
The LEF and TEF are secondary structure, made of full-depth aluminum honeycomb and aluminum skins, all bonded together. There are spars and ribs bonded and fastened to distribute the load from the surfaces into the hinge points. The fixed trailing edge shown in the drawing is made the same way. |

Hey Guys,
I am working on a class project involving the wing structure of the F-16. I plan to conduct an aeroelastic analysis of the wing, however I am missing a some information: The materials used for the spar, rib, and skin; The tip and root chord length; and if possible a detail drawing of the wing structure that includes skin thickness, spar and rib spacing, ... etc. I would really appreciate your assistance. Thank you. |

"a detail drawing"??? You'd need several hundred drawings to get the information you asked for. And it took 40 or 50 engineers years to develop the analysis you say you want to do. I know that today's computers and software can do it much quicker, but I doubt you have access to them.
I think you should be satisfied to do an analysis of a wing similar to the F-16, without trying to match all the details. Make everything from aluminum, use skin, spar, and rib thickness which looks about right and go from there. What is important to you should be learning methods, not trying to duplicate what someone else did 30 years ago. When you say "aeroelastic analysis" do you mean flutter analysis, stiffness matrices, panel point maneuver loads, aero-servo-elastic anaysis, or what? "Aeroelastic analysis" covers an enormous territory, involving structure, flight control, and aerodynamics. If you can be more specific about what you need to do, then maybe someone can help you find what you want. |

Hey all,
I am also a student and i am interested in making a simple structural FEM analysis of the wing of the F16. Is it possible to find some detailed dimensions of the wing (including the dimensions concerning the spars and ribs as well as the distance between them)? The point of my project is to get acquainted with some more advanced FEM modelling, so i need these dimensions to get my model right. I have info on the airfoils used so i will be able to model them properly, but i lack the detailed info for the inside of the wing, thicknesses etc.
Any help would be greatly appreciated |

Hi All, I'm mechanical engineering student and I'm last class student. I have a graduate projection. It's modelling of wing structure of F-16. I have to found dimension of wing stucture (rib, skin, and spar). If I found this information, I can make my graduate projection. I'm use this information at CATIA and ANSYS programmes. Please help me. Do you have any information of wing of F-16? If there are any information, pls send me a message. It' very important for me.
Thank you for all |

Hello, are you all still looking for a wing drawing? I am at the moment building a 1/5 full scale dual F16 and have a cad drawing of the wing scale 1/10.
greetings.
