Looks like a variation of the Fighter Wing's Shield.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/31st_Fighter_Wing

Like the took the wing shield and made a badge out of it.

That's a good start....wonder what the black area has in it? I'd thought maybe it was the 510th buzzard/atom scramble....or the lion from the OSS.

I decided its the seadragon and the 3 lightning from the 510th....the text is a total mystery though.

I can't find many shots of it...that's kinda weird.

Doubt it; it's a supply badge, and there isn't any white from the Lion over the center of the badge.

Why would the 603rd "Air Control Squadron" badge be on a Viper?

Quote:
The specified mission of the 603rd ACS is to operate a mobile unit capable of providing radar control and surveillance within a designated area, to collect, display, and disseminate information of aerial activity and to provide radar coverage for the control of air forces. The squadron is further tasked to provide radar control for friendly aircraft in an offensive role against ground targets, and in a defensive role against airborne threats, as directed.

Air traffic control? Doesn't make any sense to me. Shrug

ACS folks need love too? Its the Ops Grp flagship....I've seen a lot of support units get recognition on the OG jet.

The 603rd lost one Airman and another lost a leg in a mortar attack on their base in Iraq in 2004. If you shed blood for your country a patch on a jet is not enough but the least we can do.
