| Hello to all, I am relocating to the south florida area and am thinking of joining the reserve unit in homestead 482nd 93FS. I am a 7 level weapons troop with f-16 experience and want to know if anyone can tell me about the weapons shop there. Hows the morale? supervision? and how the work atmosphere is there, in general? Thank You |

Hey,
Being in "Ordinance" I know a few people from there (Homestead), and all seem very nice as well as most I speak with on the telephone both in the past and present. One never knows unless as you stated they have 1st hand knowledge. Lately I have sent a few emails to remain in contact but never any response in return, makes me wonder also, but possibly all old school? hehe....
Will also keep watch to see who posts here. |

I was at Homestead for almost 10 years. Specialist Flight. I liked it there. But you will be working in 90 degrees and 100 percent humidity. 360 days a year. Winter last 5 days.
They do have covered parking spots which makes it a little bit better. Expect a 90 day deployment to the giant kitty litter box every 18 months.
Also as with most of the Air Force Reserve. They always have openings. Cant give away 75k years jobs any more. If that is any indication of the working conditions. But thats at any Reserve Base.

Thanks Mako, I remember chatting with you a few years back, even remembered the "Mako" portion of your ID but the system sis not pull you up, can see you still monitor the board though hehe, thanks.
Was assigned at the 944th at Luke, used to the heat for sure (little humidity though), however those were the good days when one could wear shorts if they desired, but uniform days now....believe was the Guard possibly getting jealous and complaining.
My big issue is the lack of communication of most there...one needs to literally tug on their ear to get the attention! Quite possibly old school? Know a major turn over in retiree's for 2010. I am a 7/9 level at Aviano but Dobbins is pressuring me to once again (Even after possessing an SF50 after Luke, go figure) to as they say; "To qualify me for a 5-level position"), unreal but in work as we speek, just difficult to get motivated to complete it haha. They also finally after many years were granted a cost of living raise. Know this was a major "ding" for the unit in trying to make gains in their personnel level.
Appreciate the post. |
