Hi All,
For all you fellow Viper Vanatics, Can anyone confirm if I have the below straight?
188FS (NM-ANG) - Losing it's Vipers and Potentially Flying Mission?
34FS - Losing Vipers and Deactivated?
163FS (IN-ANG) - Converts to A-10
162FS (OH-ANG) - Losing 12 Vipers but sticking around to train the Dutch?
56FW - Losing 28 Snakes...Anyone know if yet another Luke Snake squadron, Along with the already deactivated 63FS, Will bite the dust or if the jet losses will be broken up between the remaining squadrons?
BTW, For anyone who follows Eagle units..Is the 493FS at LN going away or just shrinking?
Thanks! |

I've yet to hear any official word on how the down-sizing is going to be executed at Hill. The wing is losing a squadron's worth of jets but no word from where. I know the 421st has the jets with the highest flying hours for the most part because they've deployed more than the others.
For Lakenheath, since I'm stationed here, is only losing 6 F-15Cs, so just shrinking. |

| According to a paper the AF released last week, the 34th FS is supposed to be the one to close at Hill. I don't have the link on me right now, but it is accessable from the Air Force Association website. Who knows if that's the way it will end up, but that's what the official release stated. Rumor also has it that the 34th will be the first ops sq to get the F-35. The F-35 static at ACC has a Ram's tailflash too. (All this could change at someone's whim though.) |

Sad to see that much heritage (and I'm talking about real history, not a new Blues uniform coat) being lost - how can the 56th not have the 61st, 62nd and my old 63rd FS (TFTS when I was at MacDill)?

Folks,
Take a look at these links...
http://www.af.mil/shared/media/document ... 26-085.pdf
http://heinrich.house.gov/uploads/FYCom ... turing.pdf
In short, about 249 legacy fighters will be retired. Regarding the units mentioned earlier, yes that is correct. Spangdahlem is reduce by one squadron, the 34th at Hill will deactivate. NM ANG has no new flying mission to date, IN ANG converts to A-10s and the NY ANG converts to MQ-9.
As for the F-15s...Lakenheath looses their F-15C squadron, Mountain Home converts from F-15C to F-15E FMS training role, the 19th at Elmendorf deactivates, the 71st at Langley deactivates, the 325th FW at Tyndall looses 48 airframes and will operate only 28 F-22s.
For the A-10s...Davis Monthan will loose 6 airframes, Moody will loose 6 airframes, the AFRC at Barksdale & Whiteman will each loose 3 airframes. These will pass to Indiana. |

Gemini forgot to mention... the OH ANG will loose 12 airframes, but is scheduled to continue training the Dutch until the end of FY10. Per BRAC, the unit was to engage in ISR gathering mission. So I guess this would mean the wing transitioning to an Intelligence role sometime in the near future.
There just will not be enough tails to go around... |

| Lakenheath is only losing 6 F-15C's, not an entire squadron. |

| So all in all I wonder how many crewchiefs will be forced to retrain into a new career field like what they pulled back in 05 with no cjr's im sure moving airframes helps but with the lose of so many airframs I really do wonder what all is going to happen. Or maybe im really off on this subject. |

I am sure it will be alot of retraining for those who wish to stay in. However, many of these will be drill positions, not full-time.
Alot of hard choses to be made by many people. |

Anyone know which Spang squadron will deactivate?
Are the PACAF Viper bases losing any jets as of the next couple years? |
