Kriptids quest. about a "Streak Raptor" got me thinking. Without giving any secrets away, could the F-22 or F-35 conceivably break some records? Time to climb, absolute speed, closed course, etc. I'd HATE to see any SR-71 records broken but I wouldn't mind seeing some F-15 records broken since they took them away from my Phavorite airphrame |

| Regarding the F-22, Dozer once said something... I think we won't know for now. The F-35 will probably take alot of single engine records but it probably won't be as clear cut and dry as a comparison between the F-22 and everything else. 70,000 lbs of thrust and internal weapons (less drag) means that the thing can probably break 80,000 ft. You'd have to be in a pressure suit to do it, as a pilot, but I think it's possible. |

| I don't think you'll get alot of responses, Dave. Those who know obviously aren't telling and besides I think this topic has already been discussed in another thread... |

Anyone remember toan? I haven't seen him post in a long time but he said that the F-22's rate of climb was around 69,000 ft/min.
I don't know what his source was. |

| I really don't think he slipped up. Some people here said he might've... well, I don't think he slipped up at all. Pilots are taught to give vague answers to those types of questions, the fact that he may have been a little on the "fast side" means absolutely nothing. If the plane can go that fast and other people find out, so what? You still don't have the stealth. And I'm one who believes it can go much, much faster... perhaps as much as Mach 2.8 (in standard config). The paint might peel off a bit but I'm pretty sure the canopy can take it at higher altitudes. |

Dave,
I think the simple answer is you won't be seeing the F-22 "officially" break any performance records anytime soon. Not saying it can, can't, has or hasn't.
I'm sure you know it's for security reasons. |

| I'm not sure where I heard this but the F-22 theoretically should be able to break some records but the radar absorbant coatings, and composite airframe won't take the heat from the friction. Maybe someday they'll paint one with some heat resistant coating and have some fun. Climbrate probably the only record it could break with its paint. |
