Sorry if my post is not in good context, as I just skimmed the article because I didn’t have much time but felt a need to respond out of anger before I had a time to properly read and analyze/absorbed the article later. Please forgive me if I'm off base/reckless.
I can’t help but get the gist that Olds a true war hero is in part getting shafted by the very country he served so well; a very familiar story.
There has been a lot of talk about bringing the end to the death tax; from the gist of this article I get the impression it hasn’t happened. I think it’s sad to see a family lose the family farm to pay the death taxes. I think it’s sad to see families sell their home, to pay death taxes. I think it’s sad to see families sell their business and livelihood, to pay death taxes. I think it’s sad to see the family of a war hero too hastily have to divide a war heroes memorabilia just to pay death taxes.
Don’t we pay enough taxes during our lifetime? Shouldn’t the taxes stop after we die? Doesn’t this death tax policy break up families? The death tax should end. I feel it is an abomination. I think the Old's family (as all families should) should have the time to choose what to do what is best financially for them and or what is best to preserve history. |

I was to angry to type what you have stated, I too got the same point from that posting, it bothered me (still does) so much...I am having a tough time focusing and directing the shame I feel about this whole situation. Greed, pure greed by our own, I have to stop before I say something I might wish I had sat on but true anger is not even close to what I feel about this whole distasteful event after his passing.
I posted it so "others" would be made aware of what this family is now going through after all they have already been through and gave, now must his memories and awards be sold..my God, what the hell have we come too - God forgive me for the dishonor and shame I feel at this moment |

Robin Olds was certainly one of America's heroes.
Before I get too upset about his daughter's plight I would be interested in learning how these debts were incurred. It stands to reason the medicare should have covered at least some of his medical expenses.
Retired pay and benefits for a Brigadier General, even one who retired before the Reagan raises, should have been adequate to live on for an additional thirty plus years. Note also that in most states probate does not incur until the estate is valued at $500,000 or so, thus there must have been something significant in his estate (perhaps the memorabilia itself?).
/Not a war hero
//Have met fighter pilots who were astute financial planners
///Everybody dies. I hope my heirs will feel that I planned well |

| So, if you do something FOR your country you get the shaft. Do something TO your country and you get to go to Washington and live in a chrystal palace (and no, that wasn't a dig on any one chrystal palace living sleeze bag). Yeah, thats about par for the course these days. |

| I have to agree and the assclown in D.C. is worse than President Clinton was and I thought I would never say that about anyone. Our country is in a deep dive and it scares the hell out of me, thank goodness Robin isn't here to see what is becoming of it all |
