Due to increased costs of living and decreased pay and benefits some pilots and airline employees are economically 'forced' to choose to live in motorhomes and trailers in the parking lot at the airport.
Quote:
Jobs with an airline used to be among the most respected and envied but now at Los Angeles International Airport about a hundred airline employees - ranging from mechanics to pilots - are living in mobile homes parked just yards from one of the busiest runways in the world.

Not me. However this is the first I was aware that some of the commercial pilots, technicians and other airline employees were staying in the parking lot of Los Angeles International Airport. A few months ago I made a post saying that most military pilots are not rich and some of them are so poor or stationed in such remote regions that a trailer park would be considered luxury accommodations. Several of the members scoffed at the idea. It wasn’t that long ago that you were lucky if you had a canvas tent treated with DDT, with palletized wood floor to keep you out of the mud if you were remotely deployed in a time of war. |

I totally believe that being a Fighter pilot wont make you a millionaire, you'd be better off becoming a banker though less well respected But regarding housing etc. doesn't the USAF supply on base housing for personel? I remember when Soesterberg AFB was still active that the americans had a very nice living area attached to the village of Soesterberg, I think it was called camp New Amsterdam. |
