"I can't see the [expletive deleted] thing," said RAAF Squadron Leader Stephen Chappell, exchange F-15 pilot in the 65th Aggressor Squadron. "It won't let me put a weapons system on it, even when I can see it visually through the canopy. [Flying against the F-22] annoys the hell out of me." |

i'll chime in...
I fly against the F-22 and what Winston says is not factual. The Raptor is not paying any stealth or weight penalties at the merge. I can make a Raptor pilot work very hard to get his kill if he wants to engage me in a WVR turning fight (with my essentially clean Block 30 (the Daddy Rat of F16 BFM machines)), but the F-22 is an awesome piece of machinery and I wish I had its agility. The Raptor pilot is going to practice what to do in a WVR BFM fight in the standard USAF a building block approach and usually that is the only time I see one. A majority of the time I'm going to die without knowing where the Raptor is until it is too late.
The whole load of crap about F-22's being forced to turn his radar off and give up his BVR dream...really? What is mr winston's credentials to speak on this topic? I'll wager he has no experience (based on his inane post) to lend to the matter and can be summarily dismissed as an idiot.
Can the F-22 be beaten- any jet can - but the pilot has to make a mistake and the adversary has to be able to capitalize on it. All of the F-22 strengths make it very difficult for an adversary to capitalize on a Raptor pilot's mistake.
It is these comments by you and other people in the know that blow my mind about the F-22, from all the arm-chair warriors we salute you, thanks F16guy |

Yeah,
But I shouldn't say the guy's an idiot (he's probably a PhD), because I tried to tell others on another board not to resort to name calling. Maybe I just should have said he sounds like an......but probably should have said he is uninformed and his assessment of the F-22 is idiotic. |
