| Anybody hear of any jobs in the Eglin area? They just broke ground on a new Army facility down there, but I haven't heard what types of aircraft will be there if any. I like my job where I am, but I REALLY want to get back home. Rotary wing, fixed wing, Army, Air Force, I ain't sceered. |

| There will be some with LM when the F-35 starts showing up there in early to mid 2010. |

| Maybe I should have qualified my question. I use indeed.com twice a day. I've applied to all the obvious job ads (like the ones L3 puts out). I was hoping someone knew a guy that knows a guy, etc... |

If the anti-military Liberals don't screw it up. There's a big stink about the F-35 down there right now. |

| keep in mind places like L3, General Dynamics and big places like that post job listing but already have someone in mind they half to post it per contracting guide lines in most cases but not all. but the more you put in the more your name comes up in the review cause they do half to glance at them so I would say just keep putting in for it even if its a little over your reach. |

| The Army's mission at Eglin is centered around the portion of Ranger school, which is located on the base's property. The closest Army Aviation unit is further north, at Ft. Rucker, Alabama. |

| Thanks for the words of encouragement. I know companies usually hire or promote from within, however... When I got this job a year ago, they didn't know me from Adam. I was an Air Force F-16 crew chief for 10 years and that's all they knew. Now I'm a member of a Reset inspection team on Army AH-64s. They hired me because I had an A&P and could spell "Apache". Now I'm a bit more diverse and am looking to get back home. |

Yep, I know. I grew up there. The Army's mission there is about to change. |

I noticed some of the posts in reference to NWFL/Eglin Jobs and some of the issues and figured I forward some info: They have broken ground on the Army Special Ops "Camp", it is not really a "base" but a camp, we should have approx (the number is fluid) 5000 people moving here by 2011-2012. They really wont bring any Army aviation assets (we are told), they will be right accross the street (actually Hwy 85) from Duke Field and plan on using their services often.
I saw someone mentioned L3 Com in Crestview. They primarily do -130 and helo work; but they laid off about 30 last month and there was a press release today they laid off another 30 or so. We also have BAE on the field here (Crestview) that employs about 100 or so. Also Tepper Aviation (black ops C130 stuff-Google them) and Segars Aero (Allison turbine overhaul).
We are hoping to have a huge demand for all related jobs with the JSF. The post below that we are having issues with a small local town located next to Eglin(Valparaiso) is correct, but we will get at least 59 JSFs and we are told probably the rest. At this time they are trying to find a way to satisfy some of the people that suddenly dont like jet noise (the base has been there 75 years!), we are all "fighting" those few idiots in ValP. Either way-they are coming and the jobs will too. We are told that the first JSF to arrive 2010. Locally there has been little or no advertisement for jobs related to the JSF beddown, but I am sure they will be announcing them heavily soon-our local economy needs that shot in the arm.
I will be glad to keep you guys informed and if this was too long or boring-forgive me. |

| dlo, you sir, are the man! That was exactly the type of post I was hoping for. I'm from Valp (not everyone in Valp is an asshat), and really want to get back home. I was hoping for a little intel from someone who is actually there. Keep us posted will ya? |

| No problem, would be glad to help. Yes, we know only a few there in Valp are DAs. After reading some of the post replys I noticed a comment about the Army coming, the Rangers and [Link pending approval] Army that is coming is the 7th Spec Ops, totally different group than the Rangers in South Eglin. The 7th Spec Ops are going to be on the North range directly across from Duke Field. Something else that is not discussed often but will be a great job producer here (at Eglin) is that the JSF "reload" facility is to be here. I attended a briefing last year from the AF PM of the JSF where he described that this unique facility would employ alot of techical types and would be responsible for electronic updates to the whole JSF fleet (we understood all of NATO). The way he explained it they would gather info on various threats, new ECM data, etc and that would be "loaded" to the jets almost real time. His briefing was a little more elaborate than my simple description, he obviously gave a broad overview-but it sounded really futuristic. He said because of the sophistication of the jet this would be a totally new and unique facility. Anyway, it is to bring alot of high-paying technical jobs. (BTW-The briefing was open to military and civic leaders, not classified). Hope all that helps, we have alot going on here! |
