These pics were taken at RI National Guard Open House and Airshow.
There was only ONE F-16 was on Static Display. Now look at Serial on Tail, it is 85-440 (85-1440?), but Serial on Canopy is 85-1448. I checked data base and both serials are currently Belonging to SD Air National Guard.
Does anyone know why there are TWO serial numbers on ONE Aircraft??? Or is it possible that 85-1440 is BORROWING canopy from 85-1448?

Borrowing the lid is a distinct possibility. The canopy coefficients would need to be re-entered tho.

Its not uncommon at all.....one of the more famous examples is of 91-0353 which was wearing a borrowed canopy from 90-0830 when it got it's Mig splash.

Notice the dark gray camo paint on the canopy? 830 was a Spang tail, and their camo demarcation was thru the canopy, unlike Shaw's, which was far behind the canopy.

This is the chart on the inside of the canopy that has the optical qualities of the canopy to feed into the computer:

The canopy has to be borrowed, from 85-1448 while in CANN. Both of those aircraft are currently with the SDANG.

When i was at Moody, egress shop had an extra canopy rail with a canopy on it, so when they had to change a canopy on the line they already had it built. They would switch the whole assembly then the bad one would be fixed and become the spare. Does that make any sense?

We did the same at luck when we fased out the Gold tint canopy. egress had a spare or two before they ran out. it helped us and them.

We'd swap canopies with some regularity in our unit if transparencies were bad and the affected jet were otherwise FMC. We'd just take the canopy off of whichever jet was down for other reasons and put it on the first jet. What you're seeing is not at all uncommon, especially in the ANG. It's not really a big deal. The a/c serial number is on the canopy so they can identify where it came from should it be found in the woods after an ejection.
