| Just read of the thrust increase to 26,600lbs per for the F/A-18E/F. This jet seems pretty kick a$$. What would you consider being a threat to it in A2A or A2G? What would outmatch it in capability? |

| Nothing it will face in the air in near future. It might lose one on one to newest Sukhois, but it has advantage of superior situational awareness in the context of US NAVY that make it capable of beating every opponent it meats in the air. |

Any of the newer SA-XX systems would pose a big problem for it and IMO the evolved Flanker variants and their associated weapons.

That should be interesting to watch! (70's porno music playing in the background). |

Just to ask, i have heard these claims for a long [Link pending approval] think since 2002-2003! Is GE actually in the testing phases of the upgraded 414 or are they just talking that they want to!! Where did you hear or read that the 414 is being upgraded to 26,600? I have read alot of things about the Hornet/Rhino and they all say that they want to upgrade the 414 in the future but nothing has been finalized yet. Also to add im a HUGE Hornet/Super Hornet fan just to let everyone know!! |

Perhaps the J-10B will prove to be equivalent in all around avionics and SA, compared to block II Super? On paper, the next gen variant appears highly capable. The J-10B has superior aerodynamics, acceleration (plus higher energy handling), as well as likely achieving reduced RCS than the Super. Not that J-10B will start popping up out of nowhere over the Pacific ocean, visiting USN CVNs (or Guam), but yeah, you could put me in the camp supporting the upgraded F414 power for USN supers as a capability-gap filler until credible FOC F-35C squadrons make carrier deployments.
p.s., another interesting question mark would obviously be the Mig-29K and potential/plans for its own further upgrades. But for this post I'll leave it at the anticipated J-10B on which to respect and keep tuned. |

I think you're seriously overestimating the quality and effectiveness of the J-10, its pilots, and the support systems necessary to sustain a fight. I don't think it is anything more than a glorified early block F-16. Which was impressive... 20 years ago. |

I seriously doubt that the J-10B will even have parity avionics, much less superior avionics to a Block II Super Hornet, which are second only to F-22/F-35 avionics. |

| Probably an accurate assessment, ww. At least for the first block of 10B.. But overall, perhaps the complete package of capabilities would qualify asymmetrically to be included as true competitor vis-a-vis, Block II Supers? |

I have always read that the Super Hornet has the lowest RCS of all on the "non-stealth" aircraft in the American inventory. Despite their advances as of late, it is doubtful that the designers at Chengdu have succeeded in mastering RCS reduction. As it is, the J-10 was designed with heavy Israeli and Russian foreign aid, and neither of these countries has introduced a platform with any real RCS mitigation attempts. Also, It seems that I read somewhere that canards are fairly RCS significant, which is a definite minus for the J-10.
Anyhow, seeing as China ended up in possesion of one of the IAI Lavi demonstrators during the J-10 program, the above comment about early block F-16 similarities may be dead on the money

| With an empty weight of 9000kg and 12500kg of uninstalled thrust, J-10 is a little underpowered as superbug. |

| All the "F" ... F-16, F-15 & F-18 have already lost in mock combat against Eurofighter. The Hornet has more than one jet to beat in the current market in reality. |

| Do you people understand what actually goes on during exercises? That its training for specific scenarios (a lot of times worst case) and not a giant taxpayer funded pissing match. |
