Hello, I'm new to this forum and a new modeler and I have purchased a few practice models before I tackle one of my Tamiya Vipers.
During a build (Tamiya a-10), I noticed some ugly mold lines on the canopy, so i proceeded to remove them with an X-acto blade, then sand the markings down with 180-2000gritt sandpaper. My finished product was a cracked canopy (due to my lack of tact) and an extremely foggy canopy. I have seen some beautifully polished canopies with no mold lines, please help me polish this foggy mess!

180 grit is too rough to start with. Start with 320 then 400, 600 and finish with 1500 grit. use the X-acto to lightly remove the mold line first, then sand. Very little plastic is actually removed, except for the mold line. The sanding is to smooth the surface so its not distorted after the Future is applied. The canopy will be foggy at first. You can either dip it in future or use a Q-tip and coat the canopy, trying to get rid of the bubbles. let it dry and keep giving it light coats. it will clear up. I never tried this on older kit canopies, but it works well on the newer Hasegawa and Tamiya kits. |
