2016 is too soon to even think about the F-35 in any significant numbers.
At the beginning of 2016, there will be ~300 US F-35s, but over 100 will be at Eglin AFB (all models) alone.
Throw in all the other OT&E units and I do not see the F-35 having an serious impact till 2018.
fyi, Blk4 OT&E arrives with LRIP 7 (2015) and Blk5 OT&E in 2017, planned dates of course.
This is a much more realistic assessment on when the F-35 will have an impact. Remember, it takes time to test/build/find out what the problems are and fix them. |

Again, none of what I said is dependent on Block this or that. I'm not talking about anything more than F-35 being able to respond to some crisis in the ~2015 timeframe and being able to outclass any opponents IAD. Just the same way as the MV-22 is still not fully deployed yet it's been able to deploy to combat operations and have an impact. Impact being defined as altering the dynamics of a overseas contingency operation. A single squadron of F-35B on an LHD does that.

also, ELP's whole "mistake jet" argument goes out the window when you consider most of the jets through 2016 will be OT&E and Training jets.
and as a final note, Eglin AFB will have a large, dedicated, F-35 reprogramming facility to update the software as new blocks are deployed. |

One could make a comparison, IMO, between F-22 block 20/fixed Increment 3.1 buys and F-35 OT&E block III 'Training jets' through 2016..
Let's face it, F-35 is a new breed and therefore demands new classes of description and terminology (including a new definition of IOC and OT&E). Mistake jets or whatever, I think we can reasonably understand what ELP is rambling about in such a context?
Perhaps we should all get back on this thread in 2016 and compare notes.. |

Will, Eglin AFB operate all three versions of the F-35? |

Here are the Plane, Pilot, and Maintainer schedule for Eglin AFB.
Not only does it do all 3 models, but International Pilots and Maintainers also.

Forget AIM-9x and AIM-120D for 6th Gen.....
It will be a single missile, ala JDRADM. |

Hey! See you made the jump from DeviantArt. Yeah, I've been trying to give you credit, but I'm afraid I gave up because the guy that was posting all your images was an idiot. Try not to spam the board with too many images if you can help it though. |
