Hello everybody,

I would like to ask all Viper drivers who visit this site what are the actual flight control stick response and sensivity in various versions of F-16 fighters.

I mean is flying the jet with FLCS is somewhat of driving a car with a mighty power steering so fighter movement is just the continuation of your arm movement?

So how does it feel, actually?

Regards.

I know for sure that this topic has been covered many times and is a common question. The sidestick is extremely sensitive, the first time it was described to me was "you think of what you want the viper to do and she does it."

Another thing, the stick responds to applied force, not motion. The stick barely moves at all. Full deflection takes something like 35 pounds of force. Do a forum search for "sidestick" for the aforementioned threads that discuss it.

Thanks guys for your explanations. Neaby FLCS topics have lots of technical stuff - and at this point I just wanted to know how Viper stick is being contolled in flight.

Block 1 stick did not move...never flew those. By the Block 5...first one I flew...the current configuration existed. Small amount of movement and feedback (backpressure, springrate) to give tactile feedback was easy to adapt to. Good description: you think about it and the jet does it.

Of note, went years later back to conventional arrangement (F-4) without a lot of problem other than the absolute lack of response in comparison. You didn't fly the F-4 you wrestled with it.

Interesting story...a friend had the stick come off in his hand in flight (knurled locking ring had come loose). Stuck it back in the hole and carefully flew the jet back home!

Makowest possibly installed that grip … If it looks funny sir? Don’t take the jet!

Embarassed

Yes a Mako jet...not sure who Makowest is or who installed it or how it looked pre-flight...was an A-model so prior to 1996...it was while we were at Macdill.

Shocked Darn … I was actually kidding and trying to make a joke referring to this post;

Nevertheless, whomever installed that grip that came off, and signed off the red X should be (I’ll stop there)
I will always remember this Israeli TPS student doing a walk around my jet and he looked real hard at the manual fuel shut-off valve … he said he flew a jet ( I assume back home) when the Wiggins Fitting came apart on the fuel flow transmitter! No fire but almost instant BINGO fuel!
