| Anyone know or have experience in changing bases in the Guard or reserve? I was wondering if I joined the reserves at, say, Luke AFB, and wanted to move closer to home to like, Wright Patterson...how hard or easy is it? |

Guard is state, and Reserve is federal.
Going Guard to Guard, or Reserve to Reserve may be much easier than going from Guard to Reserve or Reserve to Guard...?

It's not hard if the unit you want to join has an opening - the recruiters can let you know that. There's a form you have to complete and get signed by your current commander - the number escapes me but the MPF can help you.
Be aware that you may have to give up some rank. Since ANG and AFRC units have fixed numbers of positions in each rank (plus some overage), this can happened. When I moved from Georgia ANG to SC ANG, I lost a stripe and it took me 2 years to get it back. |
