Nobody is joking about the crash, merely the inability of the craft and what a waste of US tax payers money it is. Ofcourse the only circumstance that would not be joked about is the fate of the pilot which is unkown.
How is a plane crash a reflection of an inherant inability, or waste of tax payer money? This isn't the thread to discuss your favorite aircraft. |

What is your point??
Many more EFs have crashed than F-22s. |

If it was from Edwards, it is likely one of their early model test birds. That, and the article is incorrect in that the most expensive AF jet is the B-2, with a flyaway cost of 570mil, almost 4 times as expensive as the articles stated cost of the 150m a piece Raptor.
Second on hoping the pilot got out, met one of them from Edwards a couple year back, Major Teichert, hoping its not him. |

The F-22 was 35 miles Northeast of EAFB, and was from there.

As a Born and Bred British Limey myself I have to say I am not in agreement with anti raptor/US rhetoric here
I love both the Raptor and Typhoon and I sincerely hope that whatever has happened, that the Pilot is unhurt and can get himself a new steed As Soon as possible |

Stealth jet crashes in US desert
The F-22 is the US air force's top-of-the-range fighter
A state-of-the-art US air force F-22 fighter has crashed in the desert in southern California, the Pentagon says.
The fate of the pilot was not immediately known after the plane, which was on a test mission, came down near Edwards Air Force Base.
The US air force website lists the F-22 Raptor, which is made by Lockheed Martin, as its newest fighter.
The air force said the jet has "better reliability and maintainability than any fighter aircraft in history".
The F-22 crashed at about 1000 local time (1700 GMT), officials said.
Rescue teams were reported to be on their way to the crash site.
The $140m (£96m), supersonic F-22 is a so-called fifth generation jet, and arguably the world's most sophisticated fighter.
It is capable of both air-to-air and ground attacks.
But the $65 billion F-22 programme has faced criticism, with opponents saying the jet is too costly and not sufficiently versatile.
The US government is committed to buying 183 F-22s reduced from the original plan laid out in the 1980s to build 750, the Associated Press news agency reported.
The air force said the crash was the second involving an F-22.
"The first one was during the aircraft's test and evaluation period in December 2004 also at Edwards, during which the pilot ejected safely," a statement said.

CNN fixed that on the actual article--that blog post was made by someone who prolly didn't fact-check before posting. It now states that the F-22 is the most expensive fighter.

| I too hope the pilot made it out, shame all that technology was trashed, maybe something can be salvaged but I doubt it. |

According to the Las Vegas Sun,
Quote:
Capt. Amanda Ferrell, information officer for Nellis Air Force Base, said the F-22 was a test aircraft with the 411th Flight Test Squadron based at Edwards.
I hope the pilot made it out OK. |

Man I really hate to say it but the fact that they don't know if he's alright strongly suggests that he didn't. I hope he didn't GLOC into the dirt.
