yup, affirmative habu2. We were speaking of the same item.

Sorry, just my wild guess Razz . Can't think of anything else that is mounted on the top fuselage. Then again, it is a ED bird. Expect the least expected, I guess.

Yes, that antenna is only present on a test bird. I've never seen a SAC or ACC BONE with that antenna. I have seen it on one from Edwards. They do weird stuff there man. Shocked

I was told that the white antenna designated bombers that were NOT capable (or assigned the mission) of dropping nukes. Was a START or SALT or some treaty that specified the max number of nuke bombers we would have. The big white antenna made it visible from satellite for counting.

Ummm, for years, all the Bones could do was the Nuke mission...nobody considered conventional bombs until after it was fielded, and it turned out that there were serious technical issues to be resolved before the Bone could could carry conventional weapons.

Thus, every Bone carried the antenna and may still do. Anybody have a recent photo?

Thinking about it some more, I think maybe the white blade marker indicated those birds that WERE NOT designated nuke carriers. Which makes a lot more sense given that an Eddies bird would have such a marker...

As for the comment by Raven11, that's what treaties are for. To limit ones capabilities, and unfortunately, that requires verification by either inspectors (Russions on a Nuke base?) or some identfying mark.
