I was wondering if there were any legal issues associated with selling personal artwork you did of particular aircraft types? For example, since the F-22 and the parts which it was constructed from are the property of Lockheed Martin, Boeing, Pratt & Whittney, Northrop Grumman, etc., would the selling of such art represent a kind of "infringement"?
I know that such a thing exists that protects, say, cartoon characters from being sold for profit in a piece of artwork.
The reason I ask is because I was thinking about drawing pictures of aircraft and selling them on deviantART or other places. |

If you drew the picture yourself, then the work of your hands is your own intellectual property. It doesn't matter whether you drew an F-22, a Ford Mustang, or The Statue of Liberty.
If you want to seriously persue this, however, I would contact Lockheed Martin's Legal Department, and Marketing Department, and make sure that you have the "all clear". It would kinda suck if you had started profiting off of your own work, and then you wind up with a Process Server at your front door. |
