The SNIPER pod has great capabilities, and to be general the targeting pod design features a third-generation mid-wave Flir system, diode-pumped laser operating up to 40,000 feet altitude, enhanced stabilization, a laser spot-tracker, laser marker, CCD television camera and a combat-identification capability. The answer to your question is YES, but depends on the distance of the target of course.
Cheers,

| Looks good on paper, but ain't seen one in Iraq, the newer Rover LiteningII's are still preferred. |

| As a rough guideline, the Active Duty Squadrons are using Sniper, the Guard and Reserve Squadrons are using Litening |

Miles and miles and miles.
Seriously, it totally depends on atmospheric conditions. And I'm betting if you get up really high where the air's really dry it's even better. |

During my mid-afternoon flight with 416th FLTS test pilot Maj. Hank (Hog) Griffiths, the Sniper XR Flir routinely produced cockpit-display images that rivaled a black-and-white photograph. Thermal imagery was automatically enhanced by proprietary image-processing algorithms, and both optical and electronic zoom options allowed us to detect, identify, track and target fixed and moving objects at ranges up to 86 naut. mi.

Its the same SNIPER pod on a B-1 as the F-16, as far as ranges that's classified.
