Is it me or does it seem that every other week I hear of another MQ-1 crashing? Does anyone have any insight on why they are going down at an alarming rate?

The deployed locations where they are being used are subject to high winds and 24/7 operations don't always allow you to wait for perfect conditions.

Also consider the lightness of the aircraft, and spindly construction of the gear to keep weight low.

It's a wonder they don't loose more...

A lot of times, the work that they are doing requires them to stay on station longer, and not wait for a replacement. When you stay past Bingo, and suddenly, the engine gets quiet, well...you can fill in the blanks here.

In our system, when an engine quits, that's it, there's no restart. So yeah, if we run out of fuel, or there's an air bubble in the line large enough, it's going to quit...and there's only one way to go....
